Men's Basketball Fall to Global Sports

Nov. 14, 2000

Coral Gables, Fla. – www.hurricanesports.com – Ray Thompson poured in a game-high 20 points to lead five players in double-figures as the Global Sports All-Stars defeated the University of Miami, 87-82, in an exhibition game at the Knight Sports Complex.

Junior forward John Salmons (Philadelphia, PA) led Miami with 16 points.

Miami, which jumped out to a 46-42 halftime lead, could not overcome a poor shooting second half. Global Sports held the Hurricanes to 31.4 percent (11-35) shooting from the field while outscoring Miami 45-36 after the break.

Despite the loss, the Hurricanes received strong play from its heralded freshman class. Point guard Marcus Barnes (Miami Senior) scored 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, and handed out three assists.

Freshman forward Rodrigue Djahue (Miami Northwest Christian) recorded 10 points and six rebounds, while Darius Rice (Jackson, MS) added 11 points, three rebounds and two steals.

Miami opens its regular season schedule on the road against Florida Atlantic on November 18 before returning home for its home opener against Columbia on November 21 at Miami Arena.
