UM Soccer Travels To Face No. 1 Notre Dame In The First Round Of The BIG EAST Tournament

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–For the second year in a row the University of Miami women’s soccer team will travel to face No. 1 Notre Dame in the first round of the BIG EAST tournament.
Miami enters the tournament with a record of 9-9-1, while the number one team in the nation boasts a record of 17-0-1.
The Hurricanes qualified for the eight-team post season format after recording a 2-3 record and fourth place in the BIG EAST Northeast Division. Miami, playing its second season as a member of the BIG EAST, was defeated last season by Notre Dame 5-0 in the tournament.
The Fighting Irish enter the contest after capturing the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Mid-Atlantic Division with a perfect record of 6-0.
Miami is led in scoring by Alexis MacKenzie (Plantation, Fla.), Nicole Safran (Harrison City, Pa.) and Laura West (Allen, Texas) with 13 points a piece.
Lisa Gomez (Boca Raton, Fla.) leads the team with 10 assists on the season and 20 in her two-year career.
The Hurricanes are coming off of a 3-1 loss to No. 17 Florida State as they closed out the regular season Wednesday night at Cobb Stadium.
The Fighting Irish are led by Anne Makinen with 34 points, including 11 goals and 12 assists.
If the Hurricanes defeat Notre Dame it will be their first victory over a ranked opponent ever. UM is 0-4-0 this season and 0-9-0 all-time when facing a ranked opponent.
