Day Two Of The 2000 Hurricane Fall Classic

Coral Gables, Fla – Miami’s No. 2 seed Katia Bogomolova (Moscow, Russia) will face No. 4 seed and teammate Lauren Scaglione (Seminole, FL), in the flight B singles final on Sunday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. In the semifinals Bogomolova defeated number three seed M. Faustelini (FIU) 7-6, 6-0, 7-4 and Scaglione defeated Cristina Campana (FIU) 7-5, 1-6, 6-2.
The Hurricanes Igna de Villiers (Capetown, South Africa, No. 1 seed) will take on teammate Abby Smith (Chicago, IL, No. 3 seed) in the flight C singles final. In semi-final action De Villiers defeated Karolee Jones (FIU) in strait sets 7-6, 6-3 while Smith downed Stephanie Beaulieu (FAU) 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.
The flight B singles consolation final features UM teammates Marcy Hora (Delray Beach, FL) and Sara Robbins (Tuscon, AZ). Hora defeated J. Dougherty (Stetson) in strait sets 6-2, 6-0 while Robbins defeated Claudia Meza (Stetson) in strait sets 6-1, 6-1.
The team of Faustellini and Rose (FIU) defeated Courmes and Lopez (Barry) in the finals of the flight A doubles.
Tomorrow’s action will include the flight A singles final featuring number one seed Gallovits (FSU) and unseeded Kristen Jordan (FAU). Gallovits downed Julia Scaringe (UF) 7-6, 7-6, 8-6 and Jordan defeated Annika Bengtsson (UF) in strait sets 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.Play will resume Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day.
