Swimming and Diving Hosts -A- Invitational

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will host its annual “A” Invitational on Friday, October 20 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool in Coral Gables, FL.Admission is free.

The invitational is a three-day event ending Sunday, October 22. Prep swimmers will be competing in the mornings, the collegiate level and club teams will take the pool at 1:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Sophomore Elaine Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and senior Jennifer Wier (Cooper City, FL) will pace the lady Canes. In action last week Schwartz won the 100-yard butterfly (57.74), the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.87) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.68). Wier finished first in both the 100-yard freestyle (53.80) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.90) and second in the 100-yard backstroke (59.90).

Senior Dan Asencio (Newark, NJ) will lead the Hurricane men after an impressive performance in last week’s meet against FAU. Asencio was a three-event winner finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke (52.84), the 50-yard freestyle (21.95) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.59).
