Miami Swimmers Split Against FAU

Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami women’s swim team defeated Florida Atlantic, 161-141, while the Hurricane men dropped a close, 151-141, decision to FAU in a dual meet held at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool in Coral Gables, FL.
Sophomore Elaine Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, NJ) won three events to lead Miami including the 100-yard butterfly (57.74), the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.87) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.68).
Senior Jennifer Weir (Cooper City, FL) and freshman Courtney Caples (Tuscaloosa, AL) also swam well for the Hurricanes. Wier finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (53.80), first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.80) and second in the 100-yard backstroke (59.90). Caples finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.01), second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.99) and second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.03).
The Hurricane men were led by seniors Dan Asencio (Safat, Kuwait) and Scott Gentles (Atlanta, GA). Asencio won the 100-yard backstroke (52.84), the 50-yard freestyle (21.95) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.59). Gentles finished first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.28) and second in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:41.10).
Miami returns to action on Saturday, October 20 at “A” Invitational at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool. Admission is free.
