UM Falls 4-3 In Double Overtime To Jacksonville

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s soccer team fell 4-3 in a hard fought double overtime battle to Jacksonville University Sunday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.
UM drops to 6-6 on the season, while JU improves to 11-1. The Dolphins extended their win-streak to 10 consecutive wins, while UM is on a three-game losing skid.
Miami scored first in the match, on a goal from Deidre Bass (Coral Springs, Fla.) at 19:36. The goal was assisted by Ashley West (Allen, Texas). UM took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Alexis MacKenzie (Plantation, Fla.) scored on a pass from Allison Ford (Atlanta, Ga.) at 54:36 to put the Hurricanes on top 2-0. The Dolphins answered back with back-to-back goals at 56:40 and 65:49 to tie the game two-all.
Jennifer Sanchez (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) scored the tiebreaker for UM at 85:53 on a pass from Nicole Safran (Harrison City, Penn.) and Ford. The Hurricanes had less than five minutes in regulation to contain the Dolphins, but were unsuccessful when JU’s Dianne Scott scored an unassisted goal in (89:59) the last second of the game to tie it up 3-3, sending the game into overtime.
JU’s Trine Riis Groven scored the game winning goal seven minutes into the second overtime to take the win.
The Hurricanes out shot the Dolphins 36 to 12. UM tallied 10 corner shots, compared to three for JU.
Miami will begin a four game road swing with BIG EAST opponent Syracuse Friday at 7 p.m. in Syracuse, N.Y.
