Ahrens Ninth, Lengyel Eleventh In 3-Meter

Sydney, Australia – University of Miami junior Stefan Ahrens finished ninth while Hurricane teammate Imre Lengyel took 11th in the 3-meter springboard competition at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
Ahrens, a three-time All-American competing in his first Olympic Games for Germany, recorded 619.17 points. Lengyel, also a three-time All-American, posted a final score of 613.47 points.
Lengyel, making his first Olympic appearance, is competing for Hungary. He will also be competing in 10-meter platform competition beginning on September 29.
Lengyel qualified for the finals with a score of 287.40 during the semifinals earlier in the day. His score was the ninth best of the semifinal. Ahrens posted the tenth best score of the semifinal (282.57).
Xiong Ni (China) won the gold medal with a score of 708.72 followed by Mexico’s Fernando Platas (708.42) who took the silver. Dimitry Sautin of Russia (703.20) won the bronze.
