Durham, NC – University of Miami junior Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern) finished 2nd in her heat with a time of 23.40 to advance to Friday’s semifinals of the 200-meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Durham, NC.
Myrick, the 2000 United States Track Coaches South Region Women’s Outdoor Athlete of the Year, is the 2000 BIG EAST 200-meter Champion and conference record holder in the event. Her qualifying time was the sixth fastest of the preliminaries.
“Running in lane seven I felt I really had to come out fast,” said Myrick. “I felt really good coming off the turn but with about 50-meters to go I started opening up my stride which allowed (Kinsasha) Davis to pull ahead at the finish.”
Myrick will return to action on Thursday when she competes in the preliminaries of the 100-meters beginning at 7:35 p.m. Myrick enters the championships ranked 10th in the nation in the event.
In the women’s 800-meters, junior All-American Natalie Watson (Coral Springs) finished 10th (2:06.07) while freshman Patricia Pearson (Jacksonville, FL) took 13th (2:06.46).
