Hurricanes Tamed By Tigers

BATON ROUGE, LA – The University of Miami men’s tennis team fell to Clemson University, 4-2, at the 2000 NCAA Men’s Tennis Regional in Baton Rouge, LA.

The match started with the doubles matches, during which Clemson took two out of three from the Hurricanes to gain the valuable doubles point and take a 1-0 lead into singles play.

In singles play, the Hurricanes earned a point right away as junior Johan Lindqvist took the No. 3 singles match, 6-2, 6-2, over Clemson’s Luis Garcia. Clemson bounced back however taking both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches as both sophomore Tomas Smid and junior Peter Hoffman fell in two sets.

Miami bounced back, however, as sophomore Jose Lieberman outlasted Micah Thompson, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1, to pull the Hurricanes within one-point, 3-2, with two singles matches yet to be decided..

The Hurricanes finally fell when Marco Gojanovic outdueled Miami’s Joel Berman, 6-7, 6-0, 6-4, in a grueling three-set match.
