May 13, 2000

ATHENS, GA – The 35th-ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team fell to No. 26 Ohio State, 5-3, at the 2000 NCAA Women’s Tennis Regional in Athens, GA.

The Buckeyes jumped out to an early, 4-2, lead after the singles matches. Ohio State was able to capture the No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches, while the Hurricanes took the No. 2 and No. 5 matches.

UM senior Meredith Laughlin and junior Eva Jimenez recorded the singles victories for the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes, however, were able to start a rally in the doubles. Miami’s duo of junior Alanna Broderick and Jimenez handed a quick, 8-2, defeat to Ohio State’s tandem of Sadhaf Perez and Laura Maloney. The end for the Hurricanes came in the next match, when Ohio State’s Kristy Dascoli and Monica Rincon beat Miami’s sophomore Marcy Hora and junior Katia Bogomolova, 8-2, in the No. 1 doubles match.

University of Miami associate head coach Paige Yaroshuk gave credit to their opponent, “Ohio State is solid, one through six. They’ve fought consistently and that was the deciding factor. We played well at times, but they held a level we couldn’t match.”
