No. 13 Notre Dame Knocks Off Hurricanes
Notre Dame, IN – The 13th ranked University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team defeated No. 43 Miami 6-3 Saturday afternoon at the Courtney Tennis Center in Notre Dame, IN.
Notre Dame improves to 19-5 on the season while Miami drops to 9-10. The Hurricanes conclude the regular season against No. 16 Northwestern on Sunday.
Senior Meredith Laughlin (Miami, FL) and freshman Lauren Scaglione (Seminole, FL) led the Hurricanes.
Laughlin defeated Becky Varnum, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. The win is Laughlin’s 81st career singles win at Miami moving her into sixth-place on UM’s all-time list. Laughlin is one win away from tying former Hurricane coach Kim Sands (82 victories) for fifth-place.
Scaglione, who has won 10 of her last 11 singles matches, knocked off Lindsey Green, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Scaglione and Laughlin later teamed up to defeat Notre Dame’s Katie Cunha and Sarah Scaringe, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.
