Women's Soccer Hosts Denmark National Team

Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami women’s soccer team begin its spring exhibition schedule with the 2000 Denmark National Women’s Soccer Team on Thursday, February 25 at 3:30 p.m. at Cobb Stadium on the UM campus.
The Hurricanes are coming off a 12-8 campaign in their second season of varsity competition and a quarterfinal appearance at the 1999 BIG EAST Soccer Championships. UM, playing in its first season in the BIG EAST Conference, qualified for the league tournament as the No. 4 seed from the Northeast Division with a 2-3 record.
UM returns the majority of its players in 2000, highlighted by Freshman All-American Lisa Gomez and All-BIG EAST Second-Team member Deidre Bass.
The Denmark National Team is coming off a 5-1 victory over Lynn, prior to travelling to Coral Gables. Most recently, Denmark finished last in Group A at the 1999 World Cup, behind the United States, Nigeria and North Korea. Denmark’s key players are Gitte Krogh, Lene Jensen, Birgit Christensen, Anne Neilsen and Christina Petersen.Denmark made its third World Cup appearance in 1999, and once again is regarded as the third-best team to come out of Scandanavia, behind Norway and Sweden. Denmark, who lost in the quarterfinals in each of their first two World Cups, went unbeaten through European Group 4 play.
