CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were both victorious this weekend against the University of Connecticut. The men (3-8) defeated the Huskies, 140-97, while the women (7-4), who took first-place in nine of the thirteen events, won 136-101.

The men were led by junior Scott Gentles (Atlanta, GA), junior Dan Asencio (Newark, NJ), sophomore Wesley Stoddard (Huntsville, AL), and sophomore All-American Stefan Ahrens (Budapest, Hungary). Gentles recorded first-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 400-yard individual medley, while also scoring a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Asencio scored a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, while Stoddard notched a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and a second-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley. Ahrens swept the diving events, taking first-place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

The women were led by senior All-American Amy Lindblom (Milford, CT), junior Jen Weir (Cooper City, FL), freshman Elaine Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, NJ), and freshman Brittany White. Lindblom and Weir each recorded two first-place finishes, with Lindblom winning the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle events, while Weir took the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events. Schwartz scored a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and also took home second-place in the 400-yard individual medley. White picked up her first-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley and complimented that with a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The Hurricanes return to action on Saturday, January 29 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
