MIAMI (AP) – John Salmons scored 17 points, leading a balanced attack asMiami drubbed Florida Atlantic 89-52 Monday night.
Six Hurricanes scored in double-digits, helping overcome the absence ofleading scorer Johnny Hemsley, who missed his second straight game because of asuspension.
Leroy Hurd had 15 points for Miami (6-5) and Mario Bland scored 14. VernonJennings added 11, and Elton Tyler and Dwayne Wimbley each had 10.
Florida Atlantic (1-9) lost its seventh straight game and shot just 37percent from the floor while committing 24 turnovers. The Owls are 0-13 againstthe Hurricanes.
Hemsley, who averages 18 points per game, was suspended for two gamesfollowing his outburst against Miami coach Leonard Hamilton in a win againstDetroit.
The Hurricanes jumped to a 46-22 halftime lead behind Salmons’ 12 points.Miami went on a 12-0 spurt in a two-minute span to build a 28-11 lead with 6:57left.
Salmons scored eight of his points during that run, including a 4-point playin which sank a free throw after making a 3-pointer from the corner. He thenstole the inbounds pass and converted it into a layup.
Marques Williams led Florida Atlantic with 12 points, followed by RyanHercek with 10.
