Men's Hoops Falls To UNC-Charlotte, 75-65

MIAMI (AP) – Jobey Thomas scored 28 points, including four straight3-pointers during a 12-0 second half run, to lift N.C. Charlotte to a 75-65victory over Miami Tuesday night.
The 49ers’ Diego Guevara, playing in his second game since returning fromappendix surgery, scored 14 points, including 12 in the second half.
The loss ended the Hurricanes’ eight-game home winning streak.
Thomas made 7 of 12 three-pointers and the 49ers (4-2) made 12 of 28overall, including 8 of 14 in the second half. Miami (3-2) made only 6 of 27from 3-point territory.
Johnny Hemsley, averaging over 20 points a game for Miami, struggled at 5 of20 from the field for 12 points. Mario Bland added 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Thomas’ four consecutive three-pointers turned N.C. Charlotte’s 34-29deficit into a 41-34 lead early in the second half.
A basket and free throw by John Salmons, who finished with 11 points,followed by a 3-pointer by Hemsley brought Miami back 46-43. Guevara and Thomashit back-to-back 3-pointers, sandwiched between a basket by Miami’s JamesJones, to boost N.C. Charlotte’s lead back to 52-45.
Guevara picked up the slack when Thomas cooled off, making two straight jumpshots. Dalonte Hill followed with a fast-break layup and offensive reboundputback to give the 49ers a 63-51 lead with 3:41 to play.
In a first half bogged down by poor shooting by both teams, Elton Tyler hadtwo consecutive tap-ins to give Miami a 27-21 lead with 1:47 left.
Ken Kay Jones countered with a putback of his own and Kedric Smith hit athree-pointer to cut Miami’s lead to 29-26 at halftime.
