Johnny Hemsley helped lead the Hurricanes with 17 points in a 81-54 win over Central Florida Friday.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Johnny Hemsley led three Miami players in doublefigures and the Hurricanes pulled away in the second half to beat CentralFlorida 81-54 Friday night.
Hemsley scored 17 points and Mario Bland and Elton Tyler had 14 each asMiami shot 46.7 percent from the field.
UCF (0-1) struggled offensively, shooting 34.5 percent, including 29.2percent from 3-point range. D’Quarius Stewart led UCF with 12 points, but madeonly four of 17 shots. Paul Reed added 11 points for the Golden Knights.
Miami (1-0) held a 40-33 rebounding edge and took advantage of 21 UCFturnovers.
Miami opened the second half with a 19-6 run to build a 57-35 lead with12:30 remaining.
The closest the Golden Knights would get from there was 16 points, 60-44,with 8:43 remaining. Miami then went on a 12-3 run to lead 72-47 and finishedthe game on a 17-5 run.
Hemsley scored 10 of his points in the first half to help the Hurricanestake a 38-29 lead.
The game was tied 17-17 with 9:28 remaining in the half when Bland made alayup to give Miami the lead for good. John Salmons sank a 3-pointer with 7seconds left in the half.
