CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head women’s basketball coach Ferne Labatiannounces the signing of 6-2 prep Shaquana Wilkins (Orlando, Florida) to anational letter of intent to attend the University of Miami next fall.
“Shaquana is rated as one of the top five forwards in Florida,” saidLabati. “She is extremely athletic and she will consistently improve as shematures.”
“I chose Miami because the coaches really made me feel comfortablewhen I came to visit,” said Wilkins. “Miami was even more appealing becauseI wanted to stay close to home.”
Wilkins, attends Winter Park High School where as a junior shehelped her team to a 24-4 overall record. Her team earned a spot in theFlorida High School Athletic Association Regional Tournament while Wilkinsaveraged 15.0 points and 11.1 rebounds per game and shot 53.4% from thefloor.
Wilkins also plays for the Orlando Warriors AAU team, averaging 13.5ppg and 9.3 rpg. The Warriors finished 13th in the AAU NationalChampionships this past summer.
“Shaquana is extremely athletic and she is considered on of the toppower forwards in the state of Florida,” added AAU Coach Steve Morten.”Shaquana’s style of play is very conducive to a fast-paced game because ofher ability to get up and down the floor and score.”
Wilkins joins 6-4 center Shannon Presswood (Orangeville, Ontario,Canada) as Hurricane commitments for next fall.
