Canes Sign Dutch Nat'l Team Member

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head swimming coach James Sweeney announces the signing of swimmer Manon van Rooijen (Culemborg, Netherlands) to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Miami next fall.

“Manon is an unbelievable talent and we are very excited to have someone of her ability and experience on our team,” said Sweeney. “She will have an immediate impact for us on both the conference and NCAA level.”

van Rooijen currently competes for the Dutch National Team and is a hopeful for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. She is currently ranked 57th in the world in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of :56.90. Her other top times include :26.9 in the 550-meter freestyle and 2:04.9 in the 200-meter freestyle.
