Swimming And Diving Squads Roll Past Tampa

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore Wesley Stoddard (Huntsville, AL) won themen’s 500- and 1000-yard freestyle and the UM women had nine differentwomen win first place finishes as the Hurricanes swept past the Universityof Tampa Spartans on Saturday. The UM men (1-3) posted their first win ofthe year, 124.5-105.5, while the Hurricane women (2-3) triumphed for thesecond time in a row, 125-75.
In addition to Stoddard’s performance, the Miami men also receivedvictories from freshman Javier Wagner (Monterrey, Mexico) in the 200-yardfreestyle, junior Dan Asencio (Newark, NJ) in the 200-yard backstroke,sophomore Imre Lengyel (Budapest, Hungary) in the 1-meter diving event,and senior Tyce Routson (Provo, UT) in the 3-meter diving event.
On the women’s side, the Hurricanes captured first-place finishes fromsenior honorable mention All-American Amy Lindblom (Milford, CT) in the200-yard freestyle, freshman Elaine Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, NJ) in the1000-yard freestyle, sophomore Melissa Axner (West Bloomfield, MI) in the50-yard freestyle, freshman Meghan Clabby (Coral Springs, FL) in the200-yard individual medley, senior Jen Weir (Cooper City, FL) in the200-yard butterfly, freshman Whitney Peach (York, PA) in the 100-yardfreestyle, senior Sarah Sizemore (Vienna, VA) in the 200-yard backstroke,and senior NCAA qualifier Julie Kemp (Potomac, MD) in the 500-yardfreestyle.
The Miami’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving team will return toaction Nov. 20 at Indian River.
