Hurricanes Open Home Season Oct. 23

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami Men’s and Women’s Swimming andDiving teams will open their home season this Saturday, October 23 at11:00a.m., as then men square off against Florida Atlantic University andthe women face both Florida Atlantic and Tennessee at Whitten StudentUnion Pool at the University of Miami.
Last year the Hurricane women (0-2) beat Florida Atlantic (1-3)160-48, but did not compete against Tennessee (0-0) in a dual meet.However, at the 1999 NCAA Championships the ‘Canes finished 17th with 77points, while Tennessee finished 18th with 72 points.
The Hurricane men (0-2) look to seek some redemption against theFAU Owls (0-4) for a 145-85 defeat suffered last year at the University ofMiami.
On the women’s side the Hurricanes return All-American diversJanel Benda and Jenny Keim, as well as honorable mention All-Americanswimmer Amy Lindblom and NCAA qualifier Julie Kemp. The men returnAll-American divers Stefan Ahrens, Imre Lengyel, and Tyce Routson, whoreturns from his two year Mormon mission to compete for the ‘Canes.
