UM's Ableman, Ramirez Win Consecutive Diving Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Miami Head Diving Coach RandyAbleman and All-American diver Rio Ramirez were named Diving Coach of theYear and Diver of the Year respectively, Saturday at the 1999 Men’s NCAASwimming & Diving Championships in Indianapolis, IN.
Ableman is the only UM diving coach to win the national honorfive consecutive years, it’s his eighth overall during his 10 year tenurewith the University (1989, 92, 93, 95-99). He has coached 29 All-Americansand 13 individual champions and was recently named BIG EAST Diving Coachof the Year.
Ramirez won the honor for the second consecutive year after claiminghis third, 1-meter diving title, capturing first in the 20-meter platform,and placing second in the 3-meter springboard. Last season, the juniorfrom Camaguey, Cuba, won the 1-meter, finished second in the 3-meter andeighth in the 10-meter.
