CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes completed their eighth day of preseason workouts with a 90-minute practice in shorts and shells at the Greentree Practice Fields on Friday afternoon. The team focused on scrimmage situations and positional fundamentals in the session, which took place in sunny and hot conditions.
“Things are going well and we’re looking forward to Saturday’s scrimmage,” UM head coach Larry Coker said. “We’re in pretty good shape physically. We have some bumps and bruises, but nothing that’s really of long-term concern. We’re a little thin at defensive end, but we should be fine there for the long run. All in all, I’m happy with where we are right now.”
Following the practice, the team broke for dinner before returning for team meetings at the recently expanded Hecht Athletic Center in the evening.
The Hurricanes will have a situational scrimmage Saturday morning at the Orange Bowl beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. That scrimmage will be closed to media and the general public. There will be no practice Saturday afternoon. Miami completes its weekend of practices with a single workout Sunday afternoon at Greentree beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Miami begins the 2001 season on Saturday, September 1, at Penn State in a nationally televised contest (ABC Sports). Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
