CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami football practiced for two hours in shorts and pads Wednesday in muggy conditions at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus. The workout was capped by an update on the condition of defensive end Jerome McDougle, who fainted after the Tuesday morning practice and was hospitalized overnight.

“He’s doing fine,” said head coach Larry Coker at the conclusion of the Wednesday morning practice. “They’re still evaluating some tests. They’ve run all sorts of tests. I don’t know if those evaluations are complete yet. He’s very hopeful that he will get out of the hospital today and it looks good along those lines.”

The team’s first scrimmage of the fall will take place during the afternoon practice today, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Greentree.

Workouts are closed to the public beginning Thursday with regular media policies going into effect at that time.

The Hurricanes begin the 2001 season Saturday, September 1, at Penn State in a nationally televised contest (ABC Sports). Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
