CLEMSON, S.C. – Despite a pair of goals by Kristen Chapman and Andrea Radice in the second period the University of Miami soccer team could not overcome an early 3-0 deficit, falling to 15th-ranked Clemson 4-2 Wednesday evening at Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C.

With the loss the Hurricanes fall to 1-3 in ACC play and 2-5 overall on the year while Clemson improves to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the ACC.

Clemson opened the scoring early when Lindsay Browne netted a goal past UM keeper Lauren McAdam 23 seconds into the match.

The Tigers added a pair of goals less than a minute apart when Courtney Foster scored in the 16th minute followed by a goal by teammate Kelly Schneider 52 seconds later to put the score at 3-0 where it would stay heading into the half.

Miami responded less than three minutes into in the second half when Chapman took a pass from Sheuneen Ta to score her first goal of the season at the 47:36 mark.

Radice would cut the Clemson lead to one six minutes later on an unassisted goal – her first of the year – past the Tigers Ashley Phillips.

Trailing by a goal, the Hurricanes’ rally was cut short in the 80th minute when the Tigers’ Elizabeth Jobe scored on a corner kick to give Clemson their fourth goal of the evening.

“We definitely improved as a team with this match but we have to start taking care of the small details that lead to success.” Head Coach Tricia Taliaferro

“I feel like we might have been a little overwhelmed with the way Clemson came out,” head coach Tricia Taliaferro said. “They are a very good team and extremely organized and in the ACC you can’t afford to put yourself behind early. We made some adjustments in the second half and out played them, but we just couldn’t capitalize on opportunities.”

“We definitely improved as a team with this match but we have to start taking care of the small details that lead to success.”

Miami returns to Coral Gables for a October 3 match with ACC rival Duke slated for a 2 p.m. start at Cobb Stadium.
