Six Football Players Now Featured at 'Miami Awards'

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – In addition to fournational championships in football, the University of Miami has a rich traditionof its players capturing some of college football’s most prestigious individual honors.

Most recently, UM’s Dan Morgan won the 2000 Butkus Award as the nation’s bestlinebacker.

Miami quarterbacks have been awarded the Heisman Trophy twice with Gino Torrettawinning in 1992 and Vinny Testaverde in 1986. Defensive tackle Russell Marylandwas awarded the Outland Trophy as college football’s most outstanding interiorlineman in 1990. Another Miami defensive tackle, Warren Sapp, was named the recipientof the 1994 Lombardi Trophy as the nation’s best lineman.

In early September, the Miami Athletic Department launched a new feature to itswebsite at HurricaneSports.com entitled ‘MiamiAwards’.

The purpose of Miami Awards is to highlight current Hurricane footballplayers who are considered candidates for these national honors.

Six players are now featured at Miami Awards including junior quarterback KenDorsey, senior running back Najeh Davenport, senior offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie,junior running back Clinton Portis, senior strong safety Ed Reed and senior offensivetackle Joaquin Gonzalez.
