CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Saturday morning practice for the University of Miami football team was cut approximately 15 minutes short as lightning in the area forced the coaching staff to put a quick end to the workout. Practices will resume today at 3:30 p.m.

“We didn’t really lose much (by ending the workout early),” head coach Larry Coker said. “We got most everything done this morning that we had planned on. I thought the quarterbacks and receivers really looked good this morning. (reserve quarterback) Derrick Crudup looked great. I hadn’t seen Derrick practice all summer, but he really looks good right now, looks like he’s come a long way.”

The Hurricanes will only have one practice on Sunday, that workout slated for 3:30 p.m. The team’s first scrimmage of the fall will take place during the afternoon practice on Wednesday, August 15, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Greentree.

Practices are open to the public through August 15. All workouts are closed to the public beginning Thursday, August 16, with regular media policies going into effect at that time.

The Hurricanes begin the 2001 season Saturday, September 1, at Penn State in a nationally televised contest (ABC Sports). Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
