The weekend long event, now in its sixth year, will also feature ACC rival Duke, Wisconsin, Iowa, KansasState and host Texas.  The Hurricanes will race varsity eight, junior varsity eight, novice eight and varsity four boats over a 2000m course throughout the weekend.

The Longhorn Invitational Regatta will be the first official competition of the season for the Hurricanes.  Miami took part in a scrimmage against Yale last weekend in Sarasota, Fla.

The Hurricanes finished the fall season with strong performances highlighted by two gold medals at the Head of the Hooch regatta. They also finished just two seconds behind perennial rowing powers Texas and Virginia at the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville.

Miami returns 27 rowers from the 2005 squad, many of whom were novices last year and have been fighting to get seated in a varsity boat this year.  Four freshmen have also joined the team and look to contribute this spring. The Hurricanes look to improve on their fourth place finish in their inaugural season of competition in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“We’ve had a phenomenal build-up to the racing season and our team is excited to get out on the race course and compete,” said head coach Debra Morgan. “The team has taken a big step this year in terms of work ethic and confidence and I look forward to seeing them race this weekend.”

“Participating in this event will give us a chance to race multiple times over several days and to compete against some of the top schools from the South and Central regions, our team is really looking forward to competing at the Longhorn Invitational,” concluded Morgan.
