Oct. 4, 2007

Coral Gables, Fla. – After a stellar week of play to help the University of Miami women’s soccer team to a 2-0 start in ACC competition, freshman forward Brittney Steinbruch (Wyckoff, N.J.) continues to garner accolades as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America has selected her the NSCAA National Player of the Week.

Steinbruch – who is also the reigning ACC Player of the Week and has been selected to the Soccer American Women’s Team of the Week and Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week – is the first Hurricane soccer player to earn the national accolade in Miami’s 10th season of women’s soccer.

The true freshman recorded a pair of game-winning goals and an assist as Miami knocked off NC State and then-seventh ranked and defending NCAA champion North Carolina in a pair of home contests to open the ACC slate.

In Thursday’s 2-1 win over the Wolfpack, Steinbruch registered an assist on the first Hurricane goal and then knocked in the game winner. She followed that performance with the golden goal in Sunday’s 1-0 shutout of North Carolina. It was Steinbruch’s team-leading 11th goal of the season and her fourth game-winning goal.

She ranks sixth in the nation in points per game (2.4) and goals per game (1.1), and currently leads the ACC in shots (64), shots per game (6.40) and game-winning goals (4). Steinbruch is also second in the league in points, points per game and goals per game.

A two-time New Jersey Player of the Year as a prep at Ramapo High School, she also played for the U.S. U-20 National Team in the spring.

Steinbruch and the Hurricanes hit the road for a pair of ACC contests this week. They head to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech (4-4-1, 0-2 ACC) on Thurs., Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. and then cross the state to Charlottesville, to take on No. 4 Virginia (7-1-2, 1-0-1 ACC) on Sun., Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. Thursday’s match with the Hokies also will be webcast on ACCSelect.com.
