Hurricanes Fall to Wake Forest 5-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The University of Miami soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss to ACC counterpart Wake Forest Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Demon Deacons scored three goals in the first half and pair of goals in the second to hand the Hurricanes their eighth loss of the season as Miami falls to 2-8-0 overall and 1-6-0 in ACC play this year. With the win, Wake Forest improves to 8-4-1 overall with a 2-3-0 mark in conference play.
Wake Forest’s Jayme Leigh Cargnoni scored the first goal of the afternoon for the Demon Deacons, netting a cross from teammate Sarah Kozey past UM keeper Alex Alford just 40 seconds into the match.
Elizabeth Remy scored Wake Forest’s second and third goal, scoring in the seventh and 19th minute to put the Demon Deacon’s up 3-0 heading into the half.
The Demon Deacon’s added a fourth goal in the 67th minute when Melanie Schneider followed her own deflection off a save by Alford to score on the rebound.
Wake Forest would score their fifth and final goal of the outing just over a minute later at the before going on to hold the Hurricanes scoreless for the remainder of the match.
The Hurricanes return to action Wednesday taking on cross-town rival Florida International at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium.
