DeLAND, Fla.-The Miami soccer team shattered eight match records en route to a 10-0 shutout over host Stetson Saturday afternoon in DeLand, Fla.
The Hurricanes (9-7-1) broke the record for most goals scored in a match (10), most goals scored in a match, both teams (10), largest margin of victory (10), largest margin of victory, shutout/away (10), most shots (38), fewest shots allowed (0) and the most shots in the second half (22).
Eight different players posted goals for the Hurricanes, with forward Allison McWhinney (Danvers, Ma.) and midfielder Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.) tallying two apiece.
McWhinney scored the first goal of the match two minutes in, on an assist from Laura West (Allen, Texas) and Butcher.
Deidre Bass (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) scored at 38:32 on a pass from Jennifer Sanchez (Miami, Fla.) to give UM the 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Hurricanes went on to score eight goals in the second half. Butcher scored back-to-back goals to open the second half.
Lisa Gomez (Boca Raton, Fla.) connected on her third goal of the season on a pass from Bass.
Sanchez scored at 65:55 breaking the record for most goals in a match with seven for the Hurricanes, the previous record was six goals scored in the win over FAU in 1999.
Nina Ghoniem (Weston, Fla.), Vonda Matthews (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Andrea Radice (Hialeah, Fla.) also scored for UM.
Miami will wrap up the regular season at home Wednesday at 7 p.m. facing South Florida.
