Oct. 27, 2009
CORAL GABLES – After the 1-0 win over the No.2 North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday, two University of Miami women’s soccer players were named to national teams of the week. Junior Brittney Macdonald was named to the Soccer America squad while both Macdonald and senior Beverly Goebel were chosen for the CollegeSoccer360.com team.
Goebel and Macdonald were recognized by CollegeSoccer360.com as Primetime Performers of the Week. Goebel scored the game-winner in the 81st minute in Miami’s win over the No. 2 Tar Heels. Macdonald anchors the Hurricane backline that allowed North Carolina to record only two shots on goal and held NC State to only one goal earlier in the week.
Macdonald was also honored by Soccer America for the first time in her career. The Littleton, Colo. native was named to the online magazine’s Team of the Week. Macdonald is the first Hurricane in two years to be named to the prestigious weekly team. Both Brittney Steinbruch and former `Cane Lauren McAdam were named to the squad in October of 2007.
Miami wraps up their regular season this weekend with two road contests. On Friday, Oct. 30, the Hurricanes face No. 17 Virginia Tech, then on Sunday, Nov. 1 they face Virginia in Charlottesville.
