Lightning Brings Early End To Miami's Tuesday Practice

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – Lightning associated with a persistent thunderstorm forced the top-ranked Miami Hurricanes (ranked No. 1 by Associated Press and in the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll) to end their Tuesday afternoon football practice about 30 minutes early on Tuesday afternoon. The workout, scheduled to last approximately 90 minutes, was ended after an hour, but head coach Larry Coker was pleased with the team’s progress through the rain-soaked session.

“We worked through it, although it was raining the entire time, sometimes raining pretty hard,” Coker said. “All in all, I think we’re in good shape. The guys have worked hard and we’re ready to play another game.”

Miami, which last played on Sept. 8 against Rutgers, resumes its 2001 season Thursday night at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh when the Hurricanes take on the University of Pittsburgh Panthers in a nationally televised (ESPN) game slated to kick off at 7:38 p.m. Eastern time. The Hurricanes will have a closed walk-through at UM on Wednesday before traveling to Pittsburgh later in the afternoon.
