Hurricanes Primed for Match-Up with Virginia Tech in the First Round of the ACC Tournament

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team will take on fellow ACC newcomer Virginia Tech in the opening round of the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament Sunday at 1 p.m. in Blacksburg, Va.
Head coach Tricia Taliaferro and the Hurricanes, playing as the tournament’s No. 10 seed, take to Virginia Tech after concluding the regular season with an overall mark of 3-12-0 and a 1-8-0 record in ACC play. The seventh-seeded Hokies wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 10-7-0 while going 4-5-0 in conference play.
Sunday’s match will mark the second time in seven days Miami has faced the Hokies. Miami last met up with Virginia Tech Oct. 24 in Blacksburg, suffering a 2-1 loss to the Hokies on a game-winning goal in the 74th minute.
Miami leads the all-time series with Virginia Tech at 2-1-1. Prior to last Sunday’s loss to the Hokies, the Hurricanes had never dropped a match to Virginia Tech, winning 2-0 in 2003 and 2-1 in 2002. The two schools tied in their first meeting, a 1-1 decision in Blacksburg.
