Oct. 4, 2006
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team takes to the road for a pair of ACC games beginning Thursday with a match-up with Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. at 7 p.m. The Hurricanes then travel to College Park, Md. Sunday for a contest with Maryland at 1 p.m.
Coming off a 1-0 upset over then eighth-ranked Virginia Sunday in Coral Gables the Hurricanes hit the road with an overall record of 7-4-0 and an ACC mark of 1-3-0.
Sophomore forward Rachael Rigamat’s game-winning goal in the 54th minute against the Cavaliers gave the La Cresenta, Calif. native her third goal of the season, placing her in a tie for the team lead with fellow classmate, forward Paulelette Ricks-Chambers.
With three goals and one assist Rigamat currently leads UM with seven points, followed by Rick-Chambers (6), junior forward Rebecca Tweneboah (4) and sophomore midfielder Jenna Levenson (4).
Boston College enters Thursday’s match with a 7-4-0 overall record and a 1-2-0 record in league matches after dropping a pair of ACC games to Duke and Wake Forest last week.
Miami is 1-5 all-time against the Eagles and saw its only victory against Boston College during the 2002 season when both schools were members of the BIG EAST.
The Terrapins, who face No. 3 Florida State Thursday prior to Sunday’s match with UM, are currently 4-6-1 overall and 0-3-0 in league play after dropping five of their last seven games.
UM head coach Tricia Taliaferro, who was a four-year starter for Maryland from 1992-95, has never lost to her alma mater, downing the Terrapins in each of the two schools’ previous two meetings.
