Soccer Signs Four Players

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami head soccer coach Tricia Taliaferro announced the signing of four players to national letters of intent for the 2003 season.

The signing class includes Lauren Alford (Atlanta, GA), Julie Brooks (Atlanta, GA), Shannon Sanguinetti (Wellington, FL) and Jessica Stegman (Rockville Centre, NY).

Lauren Alford (Atlanta, GA) is a 5-6 goalkeeper out of the Westminster Schools. She led her team to the AAA State Championship title her junior season and a runner up position her sophomore year. She earned All-City Team honors in 2001-02. She was named Georgia AAA Player of the Year and received Coach’s Award for Exceptional Performance in 2002. She was named team captain her senior season. She went 20-2-2 in 2002 including 19 shutouts, allowing only nine goals in 24 games. Member of the Georgia ODP state team from 2000-2003 and the Regional III Pool in 2001-02. Played on the Georgia U18 State team, leading the team to a state title and a No. 6 national ranking.

Julie Brooks (Atlanta, GA) is a 5-7 forward/midfielder out of St. Pius X Catholic HS. She led her team to consecutive Georgia AAAA State Championship titles in 2001 and 2002, and a AA Georgia State finalist finish her freshman year. She was named team captain her senior season. Member of the 2002 U18 and 1999 U14 Georgia State Championship teams. Played for the 2000 U14 South Eastern Region Finalists. She was also a member of the Australian National Team Pool.

Shannon Sanguinetti (Wellington, FL) is a 5-6 midfielder/forward out of Wellington High School. She guided her team to a district championship title in 1999-2000 and quarterfinals in 2000-2001. Her team was a FSHAA State Finalist Runner-up her junior season. She was named Palm Beach Post and Sun-Sentinel All-County Second Team her freshman season. Earned Palm Beach Post All-Conference Second Team honors her sophomore season and Sun-Sentinel All-Area First Team her junior year. She was named offensive Most Valuable Player her junior season. She led team Boca to state championship titles from 1998-2002, including a Region III Semi-Finalist finish in 2000. Team was Orange Bowl Champion in 1998 and runner-up in 2002.

Jessica Stegman (Rockville Centre, NY) is a 5-7 goalkeeper out of Baldwin HS. She was named team co-captain and MVP her senior year. She garnered All-Nassau County honors her senior season and All-Conference honors as a junior. As a freshman she earned junior varsity team’s Most Valuable Player. Her 11.5 career shutouts ranks third in school history. Member of the NY ODP team from 1997-2003. Played on the Region I ODP team from 2000-02.
