Two Hurricanes Receive Postgraduate Scholarships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami seniors Yassamin Haririnia (Fairfax, Va.) and Adrienne Moss (Miami Southridge) have been awarded postgraduate scholarships as part of the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics Women’s Enhancement Scholarship Program.

The NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee (MOIC) and Committee on Women’s Athletics (CWA) named 32 postgraduate scholarship winners for 2005-06. Half of the scholarships were awarded through the MOIC Ethnic Minority Enhancement Scholarship Program and half through the CWA Women’s Enhancement Scholarship Program.

The one-time scholarship is worth approximately $6,000 and is awarded to applicants who are entering their first semester of postgraduate studies.

Miami joins San Diego State as the only schools to have two student-athletes among the 32 postgraduate scholarship recipients. Miami is the only school to have two of the 16 postgraduate scholarship recipients awarded by the CWA.

This marks the second postgraduate scholarship for Haririnia who was named the recipient of the Weaver-James-Corrigan Scholarship by the ACC in February. Haririnia, a Pre-Physical Therapy major and three-year letterwinner as a member of the women’s rowing team, is scheduled to graduate this May and plans to begin work on a postgraduate degree in Physical Therapy starting this fall.

Moss, a 2005 All-ACC Track and Field performer in the shot put, graduated in the Fall of 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology, with minors in English and Sports Administration, and is currently pursuing her MBA.

The 2005-06 recipients of the Women’s Enhancement Scholarships and the institutions they will attend are: Kimberly Detwiler, San Diego State University; Tonya Edmonds, Western California University; Mindy Garrison, Texas A&M University, College Station; Amanda Gier, Ohio Northern University; Yassamin Haririnia, University of Miami (Florida); Erin Hartigan, University of Massachusetts at Lowell; Nicole Jay, University of Maine; Kristin Leon, California State University, Fresno; Amanda Meyer, Valparaiso University; Jayme Mitchell, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; Adrienne Moss, University of Miami (Florida); Caorlan Schroeder, Randolph-Macon Woman’s College; Colleen Price, Siena College; Tatiana Warren, Syracuse University; Cynthia Wright, Whitworth College; Jo Young, University of Cincinnati.
