Miami Returns To Practice Field for Second Day

Sept. 14, 2001

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – On a day originally planned to be the final afternoon in a buildup with a showdown with the Washington Huskies, the top-ranked Miami Hurricanes (ranked No. 1 by Associated Press and No. 2 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll) practiced for 90 minutes in shorts and pads on Friday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus.

With Saturday’s game with Washington postponed indefinitely due to the tragic events in the United States earlier this week, the Hurricanes will now take the weekend off before resuming practices on Tuesday, September 18, at Greentree. Miami’s season resumes on Thursday, Sept. 27, at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh when the Hurricanes take on the University of Pittsburgh Panthers in a nationally televised (ESPN) game slated to kick off at 7:38 p.m. Eastern Time.

“We’ve had very good practices the last two days,” said Hurricanes head coach Larry Coker. “I think getting back to work on conditioning and really focusing on the basics has helped the team, especially when it comes to dealing with what’s been going on in the country this week. We’re making the best of this situation.”

The Hurricanes worked out under cloudy skies with windy conditions on Friday as Tropical Storm Gabrielle moved ashore north of South Florida near Tampa.
