Hurricane Rowing Set for Longhorn Invitational to Open Spring Season

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s rowing team will open the 2007 spring season at the seventh annual Longhorn Invitational beginning Friday, March 16 through Sunday, March 18 at Town Lake in Austin, Texas.

The weekend long event, hosted by the University of Texas will also feature University of Central Florida, ACC opponent Duke, Iowa, and Kansas State.

Miami will take on Texas to kick off the weekend beginning at 4:00 p.m. Each day the race format will consist of first novice eights, followed by the first varsity fours, then the second varsity eights, and finally the first varsity eights, all in ten minute time-slots. The Hurricanes will compete against Iowa on Saturday beginning at 8:40 a.m., and then face Kansas State later in the day beginning at 5:00 p.m. On Sunday Miami will conclude the weekend against the Blue Devils, as the race time is set to begin at 8:50 a.m.

Earlier in the week, Miami took part in a scrimmage against University of Connecticut where the Hurricanes dominated the Huskies at the Ronald Shane Watersports Center in Miami Beach.

The Hurricanes wrapped-up their fall season at the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Va. where the varsity eight finished ahead of UCF, Wisconsin, Clemson, and Texas, and the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass. where the Hurricanes participated in three events – the Youth Doubles (2x) Women’s College Division finished fourth place, Women’s Club Singles (1x) captured fifth place out of twenty-seven rowers, and the Championship four (4+) placed tenth overall above Princeton out of twenty boats.
