March 7, 2007
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head coach Tricia Taliaferro is pleased to announce the signing of Chelsea Pederson (Rohnert Park, Calif.) to a National Letter of Intent to play soccer at the University of Miami beginning this fall.
A 5-7 forward/midfielder, Pederson has been active with California’s Olympic Development Team for three years, and has played club soccer with Santa Rosa United since 2003 and with Rohnert Park Express for the six years prior to that. On the club level, she has advanced to the US Club Soccer finals and SYL national finals, and has won the Surf Cup twice and the State Cup in 2005.
Pederson also played soccer for four years at Rancho Cotate High School, earning her team’s Offensive Player of the Year honors. A three-time all-league selection, she netted 20 goals as a sophomore, led her team in assists as a junior and recorded the most goals and second-most assists as a senior.
“We are extremely excited to add another dimension to our front line,” said Taliaferro, who embarks on her sixth season at the helm of the Hurricanes soccer program in the fall. “The entire incoming class adds talent up and down the field, and I’m looking forward to working with them and getting this program to the forefront of the ACC.”
Pederson is the third Californian and ninth signee in Coach Taliaferro’s 2007 class, joining midfielder/forward Brittney Steinbruch (Wyckoff, N.J.), defender Brittney Macdonald (Littleton, Colo.), midfielder/forward Lauren Singer (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), defender Lauren Kaiser (Alexandria, Va.), midfielder Katie Oddo (Granite Bay, Calif.), defender Jill Satterthwaite (Lodi, Calif.), midfielder Leigh Van Lear (Burke, Va.) and goalkeeper Kyle Kocarek (Naperville, Ill.).
