Hurricanes Earn NSCAA Academic Award

Dec. 3, 2008

CORAL GABLES – After reaching the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, the University of Miami women’s soccer team was named as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Team Academic Award Winner.

To qualify for the honor, the NSCAA requires that the team GPA to at 3.0 or above. This is the fifth time that Miami has received the award and the fourth consecutive season. Tricia Taliaferro has been at the helm of each of the award-winning teams.

Earlier this season, Brittney Macdonald earned a second-team selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team with a 3.97 GPA. Macdonald was the first Hurricane to earn the honor since Laura West in 2001.

The All-ACC Academic Team won’t be announced until February of 2009, but Miami was well represented last year as Macdonald, Brittney Steinbruch and Lauren Singer all received nods.

The Hurricanes earned their second straight berth in the NCAA Tournament and third overall this past season. Miami will only lose three seniors to graduation and will look to make their third straight tournament appearance in 2009.
