CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami’s highly touted class of football recruits was officially greeted by head coach Larry Coker Sunday morning. The newcomers reported beginning at 9 a.m. and were fitted for equipment, underwent physicals and checked in to their dormitories.

“We’re glad that everyone reported on time this morning and we’re ready to get to work,” said Coker. “This always is an exciting day for the players and their families. The look of excitement in the eyes of the new players just tells me one thing – football season is here.”

Along with 19 players who signed with the Hurricanes in February, two new players reported to camp as scholarship players. Cornerback Jean Leone (6-0, 170) of Jackson High School in Miami and defensive lineman Kyle Morgan (6-4, 245) of Galileo HS in San Francisco, CA.

The newcomers will spend much of the week going through student-athlete orientation. Practices for the newcomers begin Tuesday morning at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus. Morning practice begins at 8:30 a.m. with an afternoon session slated to start at 3:30 p.m. The group will go through only one practice on Wednesday, that workout slated to begin at 9:20 a.m.

University of Miami Football Media Day will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Full Squad two-a-day practices begin for the Hurricanes on Friday, Aug. 10, and will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily. All practices are open to the public from Friday, Aug. 10, through Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Miami begins the 2001 football season on Saturday, September 1, at 8 p.m. in a nationally televised contest against the Penn State Nittany Lions at State College, PA.
