Soccer Falls To FAU In Season Finale

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami soccer team closed out the regular season falling to Florida Atlantic, 2-1, Monday night in Boca Raton, Fla.

The Hurricanes drop to 9-8-1 on the season, while the Owls improve to 13-4-0 overall. This marks the first time the Hurricanes fall to the Owls. UM leads the series 3-1.

FAU scored just over 17 minutes into the match as Trina Maso de Mayo connected from 20-yards out on a pass from Janine Aylward.

The Owls held the 1-0 lead well into the second half until Michelle Provenzano (Davie, Fla.) took advantage of a Miami corner kick. She scored with 19 minutes remaining in the match.

Miami was called for a foul with two minutes remaining in the match Danielle Castro served the ball to Aylward who fought through the UM defense to score the game-winning goal.

Miami outshot FAU, 19-8 in the losing effort.

The Hurricanes are back in action hosting Rutgers in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium.
