Coral Gables, Fla. – (www.hurricanesports.com) – With their highly anticipated season opener just 48 hours away, the second-ranked Miami Hurricanes held a two-hour practice in shorts and shells on Thursday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus. The workout, a non-contact practice session, was the final lengthy session leading to Saturday night’s clash with the Nittany Lions of Penn State.

“We’re ready to play some football,” said Coker. “It was a lighter day (of work) today, but we had a lot to accomplish. And, I felt we did. We worked on a lot of situations, along with some special teams emphasis at the end. We’ve had a productive week and I think we are ready to play.”

On the injury front, Coker announced that defensive ends Jamaal Green (knee) and Cornelius Green (toe) will make the trip to Penn State. Jamaal Green has worked back into regular action after intermittently missing work with a sprained knee. Cornelius Green has been cleared to play after an MRI for a turf toe injury determined the problem is not as serious as originally thought. Reserve linebacker Jarrell Weaver (shoulder) also is back to action and should play.

The Hurricanes will conclude their game-week work with a closed walk-through on Friday morning at Greentree before departing for State College on Friday afternoon.

Miami begins the 2001 season on Saturday, September 1, at Penn State in a nationally televised contest (ABC Sports). Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
