James Lewis’ interception returned for a touchdown marks the sixth touchdown of the season scored by a non-offensive player.

SCORING FIRST WINS GAMES
When Miami scores first it is nearly a lock to win. With tonight’s victory, the Hurricanes have gone 148-14 when scoring first since 1983.

MIAMI PILING ON THE POINTS
Tonight’s game marks the eighth consecutive game in which the Hurricanes have scored 30 points or more. When Miami scores 30 or points in a game, the team has won 88 consecutive games, since dropping a 31-30 decision at Notre Dame in 1988.

HOME GAME WINNING STREAK CONTINUES
Miami extends its home game winning streak to 13 games dating back to 1999. The Hurricanes last lost at the Orange Bowl to then No. 2 Penn State on Sept. 18, 1999, 27-23.

DORSEY EXTENDS RECORD TD PASS STREAK
Junior quarterback Ken Dorsey’s second quarter TD pass to Jeremy Shockey extends his school record of 22 consecutive games with a TD pass dating back to 1999.

MORE DORSEY NOTES
Dorsey’s 48th career touchdown pass ties him for first place with Steve Walsh (1986-88) and Vinny Testaverde (1982-96) on the UM all-time career touchdown passes thrown list…Dorsey’s 192 total yards ends his nine-game streak of throwing 200 yards or more.

ED REED STRIKES AGAIN
Senior free safety Ed Reed notched his fifth and sixth picks of the season in the second quarter, giving him 18 for his career. He is now in sole possession of second place on the UM career interceptions list. Bennie Blades (1984-87) holds the Miami career interceptions record with 19. This is the second game in a row that Reed has had two interceptions…This is his fourth career game with multiple interceptions.Reed also recovered a fumble, second of the season, third of his career, in the second quarter caused by Vince Wilfork.

JAMES LEWIS
His second quarter interception returned 74 yards for a touchdown is his second of the season and first returned for a score in his career.

JEREMY SHOCKEY
His second quarter TD reception is the fourth of the season, seventh of his career tying him with Rod Chudzinski (current UM offensive coordinator and tight ends coach) on the UM tight end career touchdown list…His four receptions (43) in the first half inches him closer to 8th place on the UM career tight end reception list. Randy Bethel (1987-90) is currently in 8th place with 44 catches.

CLINTON PORTIS
His third quarter rushing touchdown is the touchdown of the season and seventh of his career.

JEROME MCDOUGLE
His two sacks in the third quarter were the second and third of the season and his career.

FRANK GORE
His 49-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter is the longest of the season. This marks the first 100+-yard game of his career. Gore’s 20.7 yards per carry (6-124) ranks third on UM’s all-time single game yards per rush list. It is the highest rushing average by anyone with six or more carries in a game.

TODD SIEVERS
Junior placekicker Todd Sievers converted his 12th field goal of the season on the Canes’ opening drive, 22nd of his career…He was successful in six extra-point kicks in today’s game to improve his career PAT total to 84. He is in fifth place on the UM career PATs list.

WILLIS MCGAHEE
His 35-yard kickoff return (first of his career) in the first quarter is the longest of the season for the Hurricanes and McGahee’s career. Previously, Andre Johnson held the record with a 30-yard return at Florida State. He left the game following the return with a left knee sprain and did not return.

OTHER NOTES
James Lewis’ 74-yard interception returned for a touchdown is the longest of the season, surpassing Phillip Buchanon’s 67-yard interception… Andre Johnson caught his sixth touchdown of the season, seventh of his career…Maurice Sikes recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter…Andrew Williams left the game with a left knee sprain in the first quarter but returned in the same period…Senior offensive tackle Joaquin Gonzalez has started in all 42 games of his career…Hurricane game captains for the rest of the season are Ken Dorsey, Najeh Davenport, Joaquin Gonzalez, Matt Walters and Edward Reed …Miami won the coin toss and deferred to the second half…Tonight’s attendance was 44,411.
