Broussard Named to Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Second Team

New York, N.Y. – (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miamiwomen’s basketball team is picked by the league’s head women’s basketball coachesto finish eighth in the 2001-02 BIG EAST regular season. Coaches did not placetheir own teams on their ballots.

Miami sophomore forward Chanivia Broussard was also selected to the PreseasonAll-BIG EAST Second Team.

UConn was picked to finish in first place. Connecticut returns four starters fromlast year’s squad that advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the second consecutiveyear. The Huskies received 11 first-place votes and 167 points in the preseasonvoting.

UConn shared the 2000-01 BIG EAST regular season title with Notre Dame, the 2001NCAA Champion. The Fighting Irish garnered two first-place votes this year and155 points to finish second in the preseason poll. ND defeated Connecticut inthe national semifinals as the BIG EAST became the first conference to have differentteams win the national title in consecutive seasons.

Rutgers, a 2001 NCAA Tournament participant finished third in the poll with 143points. Boston College is picked to finish fourth with 125 points. Villanova andVirginia Tech, NCAA teams a year ago, finished fifth and sixth, respectively withthe Wildcats earning the remaining first-place vote.
