Miami Rowing Wraps- Up the First Day of the Aramark South/Central Regional Championships

Oak Ridge, Tenn. -The University of Miami women’s rowing team competed in day one of the Aramark South/Central Sprints at Melton Lake on Saturday, as the JV Eight and Varsity Eight crews captured second-place finishes to advance to the C Finals.

The first second-place finish of the afternoon for Miami saw the JV Eight boat compete in the semifinal C/D 2, clocking in a time of 7:23.07 ahead of Kansas, North Carolina, and Eastern Michigan. The University of Iowa finished ahead with a time of 7:18.70. Miami finished with a time of 7:05.74 in their Heat 1 one race. JV Eight will race against Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa, Indiana, and Texas beginning at 10 a.m.

The Hurricanes’ Varsity Eight squad turned in a time of 7:11.86 to capture second place in the afternoon’s C/D semifinal. Miami crossed the finish line right behind Indiana who finished with a time of 7:09.10, and ahead of Texas, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan and Murray State. Earlier in the day, Miami placed fourth in the second heat with a time of 6:57.39. The Varsity Eight crew will race last at the end of the day at 10:10 a.m. against crews from North Carolina, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas and Texas.

The Varsity Four crew placed fifth in Heat 1 with a time of 8:23.18 against Virginia who placed first, followed by Wisconsin, UCF, and Texas, earlier in the morning. Tomorrow, they will compete in the C final consisting of the most crews, including North Carolina, Duke, Texas, Iowa, Indiana, and Cincinnati, set begin at 9:50 a.m.
