CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami head football coach Larry Coker was encouraged and pleased by the performance of his team’s newest players during a morning workout Tuesday at the Greentree Practice Field, culminating the second day of preseason workouts for the Hurricanes.

“I could really see some improvement today,” Coker said. “It’s obvious we have a good class of players in camp. They looked good today. You don’t like to go out and say specifically who will play early on, but I do see some players in this group who can help us. Overall, this is a very smart group, it’s probably the best group academically that we’ve signed since I’ve been here. You can see that in their approach to things. They’re picking things up pretty fast.”

The newcomers took the rest of Wednesday off for more student orientation sessions and will not practice on Thursday as the team will be involved in Photo/Media Day. Miami’s veterans were to report Wednesday night and the full varsity begins two-a-day practices Friday, Aug. 10, with workouts slated for 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. All workouts this week are open to the public through Wednesday, Aug. 15.
