Swimming & Diving Open Season Friday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami Men’s and Women’sSwimming and Diving teams will open their season on the road this Friday,when they travel to Gainesville for a 2:00pm meet with the University ofFlorida. The Hurricanes will then face Florida State on Saturday inTallahassee in a meet slated to start at 10:00am. This Saturday’s meetwill serve as a prelude for the Miami and Florida State football gamescheduled at noon on Saturday.
Last season, the Hurricane women split their meets with Floridaand Florida State, losing to Florida (172-126) and beating Florida State(148-140). The men lost both meets to Florida (170-73) and Florida State(175-66). The men were more evenly matched at the 1999 NCAAChampionships, where Florida State finished 12th with 136.5 points, Miamifinished 13th with 128 points, and Florida finished 17th with 67 points.At the women’s 1999 NCAA Championships Florida finished 7th with 147points, Miami finished 17th with 77.5 points, and Florida State did notplace.
On the women’s side the Hurricanes return All-American diversJanel Benda and Jenny Keim, as well as honorable mention All-Americanswimmer Amy Lindblom. The men return All-American divers Stefan Ahrensand Imre Lengyel.
