Meghan Saake named Academic All-Star

Junior guard Meghan Saake has been selected the August 2001 Academic All-Star after leading the Hurricanes on the court and off.

Saake holds a 3.158 GPA in Liberal Arts while being selected to the 2000-01 BIG EAST Academic All-Star team, as well as the University’s Athletic Academic Services Book Buster Club. She was also part of the 2001 BIG EAST Summer All-Star team that went 5-1 against teams in Canada.

Last season, Saake was a mainstay in Ferne Labati’s starting line-up as she led the team with 818 minutes played and a 30.3-minutes per game average. She also started all 27 games she appeared in. Saake averaged 6.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game on the 2000-01 season, as well as a team-high 99 assists and 74 steals. The Wellington High School graduate was the Hurricanes leading rebounder on seven occasions and the high scorer once, a career-high 19 points vs. Western Kentucky.
