Women's Soccer Signs Six Players For The 2002 Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The University of Miami women’s soccer head coach Jim Blankenship announced the signing of six players to national letters of intent for the 2002 season, all six of the players are members of the Region III and Region IV Olympic Development Programs (ODP) teams and pools.

The signing class includes Ashley Durkee (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), Jackie Garcia (Miami, Fla.), Jessica Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Jyene Mack (Ventura, Calif.), Lindsey Yach (Carrollton, Texas), and Brittani Zonker (Littleton, Colo.).

“We are extremely excited about our 2002 freshman class,” said Blankenship. “This group brings speed and athleticism that will help us maintain our high expectations. I am excited about the role that each of these student-athletes will play on and off the field.”

The Hurricanes look forward to improving on last season’s 10-9-1 overall record and a third place finish in the BIG EAST Northeast Division.

Ashley Durkee (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Western Davie HS)-Durkee is a 5-7 defender out of Western Davie High School. She led her team to the state finals her senior season. She was team captain her junior and senior seasons and was named all-county first-team by the Herald and Sun-Sentinel. Was named to the all-state team in 2001 and Rookie of the Year in 1999. Played on the ODP state team 1997-99 and was part of the 2000 state pool. She was a member of the Team Boca Storm U-18 team and won the state championship in 1999 and 2000. Was a Wags semifinalist in 1998 and also named MVP.

Jackie Garcia (Miami, Fla., Gulliver Prep HS)-Garcia is a 5-6 midfielder out of Gulliver Prep High School. She was a five-year letterwinner and named best offensive player all five year’s. Led her team to a regional championship in 1999 and 2001 and were also state finalists those year’s. She was named All-Dade all four year’s of her high school career. She was named to the all-state team and Player of the Year 1A-4A her senior year. She was part of the ODP state pool in 2000 and 2001. She was a member of Team Boca Blaze and Miami Premier.

Jessica Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo., Thunder Ridge HS)-Keller is a 6-0 goalkeeper out of Thunder Ridge High School. She was a four-year letterwinner and led her team to two state championships in 1999 and 2000. She was a three-time first-team all-conference selection and named to the all-state team in 2001. She was a member of the club team Real Colorado and was a four-time state runner up and a two-time state cup MVP. She was a four-year member of the Colorado State ODP team and also a two-year member of the Region IV team.

Jyene Mack (Ventura, Calif., Ventura HS)-Mack is a 5-8 forward out of Ventura High School. She was named to the All-Channel League and led her team in goals, assists and points. She was a District 7 ODP player for two years and a ODP state team member for three. She led her team to a National ODP Championship in 2000 and was an Adidas Cup Player. Played on the 2001 regional team. She also played for the Oxnard Kickers a U-23 Women’s National Soccer team at the age of 16. Played for the Millennium Revolution, Millennium Falcons, Valley United Stars and CRSC Infinity Soccer club teams.

Lindsey Yach (Carrollton, Texas, Creekview HS)-Yach is a 5-5 midfielder out of Creekview High School. She holds the school record for most goals scored in a season. She is a current member of the ODP U-17 Region III team and the Region III Champion North Texas State team. North Texas will compete in the ODP National Final Four in March. She also plays for the club team D’feeters ’84’, the two-time defending Region III champions. Played with the club team Sting 84 and was the team-leader in goals, assists and total points for all seven years (1995-2001).

Brittani Zonker (Littleton, Colo., Arapaho HS)-Zonker is a 5-3 midfielder out of Arapaho High School. She was a four-year letterwinner who led her team to the state championship title in 2000. She was named first-team all-league and Midfield MVP in 2001. She has been a member of the state ODP team since 1997. Six-year captain of her club team Colorado Girls Academy U-17. Led her team to five state championship titles and regional runners-up for the last two years.
